Default now i have tranny problems!

I'm fed up with this car...why couldn't we get the 5 speeds in these cars!!!! My car started shifting hard hen I got it about two months ago so the third day I had I flushed it out using the thread on here and it seemed to be ok.... Now its shifting real hard and down shifts hard.... It feels like it slips for a second every now and then... When I park on a hill it rolls back or forward about 8 inches. When the car is jacked up I can tIe the driverside wheel and turn it back and forth about 6 or so inches. I don't know what to do besides sell it. I don't have a garage and I can't afford a tranny shop... Just gonna try and sell it and get somthin with a 5 speed.

you want a hard shifting tranny, helps them last longer, unless its flare-bang up-shifting.

flare bang is when the car is about to shift and it revs up a couple hundread rpm for a second or two (slips) and then bangs into the next gear.

yea why do you think almost all luxury cars and most suvs have tranny issues after they accumulate some miles. They all have softer shifting trannys.

like wise, the cheap jap imports of the 90s had some hard shifting trannys ( I had a few) but they never went bad and I put on a lot of hard miles.

sorry to hear about this problem. volvos are really frustrating cars when it gives you problems. let me ask you, what kind of ATF do u have in the tranny? may be a different kind of ATF might help with this problem.

And certainly make sure the fluid level is ok. I'm sure you know this, but you do know the correct procedure for checking the ATF level?

The rolling on a hill, what you're probably describing is how far the car moves until the parking pawl is engaged. When parking on a hill, you should engage the (adjusted and operational) parking brake before putting the transmission in P.

And not to pick, but your sig says you are running a modified tune and upped boost. You have to accept that modifications have a negative effect on the entire running gear.

I would change out the fluid again. Some recommend synthetic. I have gotten good service so far out of the Valvoline Max Life. As long as the trans is still moving, there is hope yet.

I'm using valvoline merc/dex 3. I've drove around for an hour or so before and checked the level and it was up to the line at the top.. when I'm under the car with driverside jacked up i can roll the wheel/axle back and forth and it makes a clunking sound.. I believe its the differential??? Wouldn't this make the car roll in park and shift hard?? By the way it doesnt shift hard going from 3rd to 4th... If I'm accelerating to say 25 and let off it downshifts pretty hard. I know that my outer tie rod is bad on the passenger side but I don't believe it would cause these problems. Could it be my driver side ch axle? Let me know what you guys think, thanks.

If you accelerate to 25 then let off, it should upshift???

A bad cv joint could contribute to some of what you describe. Have you checked the transmission mount?

Yea i meant upshift...my tranny mount is pretty wore out but that doesn't explain the play in the shaft. I'm just gonna buy a new cv axle and transmission mount and hope for the best. Boxpin do you powershift or what lol what tranny are you using?

Not trying to be a nag but we must protect our BRAIN, HEART, and NEROUS SYSTEM at all cost. Driving around with bad mounts, axels, and other bad parts will only lead to heart trouble. Keep cutting your fingers and sonner or later you will bleed enough to cause your heart problems. Stay on top of the little stuff and the big stuff will usually take care of you.
