Default Oil cooler lines- does the thermostat need to come out

I'm getting ready to replace my oil cooler lines and I am curious if the oil thermostat needs to come out? I did not buy a gasket for it and don't know if the one on it can be reused. It looks like the lines can be removed by just removing the flange, but I don't know how much of a hassle it it is. Also, what is the best way to attach the clamps at the radiator? I have never used these before, thanks

Do those clips need to be squeezed down, or do they just lock on when pushed on?
