Default Oil Pan Drain Plug Question

Hey guys...Quick question for you, does the oil pan drain plug on your non-turbo 850s just have a metal washer? Mine just has a metal washer and no little rubber gasket like my Mustang or, for that matter, any other car I've owned has/had.

Yes,

It is aluminum and it is important. If you have lost yours you can usually scare up a new one at an auto parts store. For reference you need one with the OD of a quarter and the hole size of a dime. Don't substitute a copper washer.

Thanx...Do you need to replace it at regular intervals?

I buy the things by what seems like the gross but actually I just buy them to match the number of oil filters when I buy them both online. I buy the filters by the dozen and the washers accordingly.

I think the washers cost less than 20 cents each and when I combine them with other stuff to meet the free shipping threshold they get really cheap.

With my fleet of three 850s a dozen filters is about an 8 month supply with the miles we put on our cars - even though my son's car is largely parked while he is at school and he walks to most of his classes. Like all schools there is no parking.

Anybody have idea how to remove over-tightened drain plug? And yes it is rounded, it is not 17 mm anymore.
Long story..............if it is leaking it's time for new washer not for tightening it more...............................I am an idiot......................

Default Drain Plug

A very good set of VICE GRIPS.... if you don't have any go buy the best pair you can. Low's, Home Depot, Sears. If you get cheap ones they will only round the corners more.

Try the vise grips, if they do not work you can try this. Out of desperation after the vise grips did not work for me, I tapped on an old socket slightly smaller than the bolt. I was then able to back off the pan bolt carefully. I then just threw out the source of my frustration.

I am about to begin work on a similar project for a client of mine. From what I can tell there will be significant overlap in terms of features.

Update!!!
Vise grips didn't work in my case but my friend who is Volvo truck tech stopped by and solved problem in 10 seconds. By the time I had car lifted and secured on jack stands he was done. He used one of his extracting tools.
So I learned two things: 1. change washer often as possible
2. Need right tools to do job right
