Default Power Issue when accelerating hard

Hi - I've recently picked up a 1995 850 T5. (Auto)
Great car.
However, when I really give it some throttle it sort of lurches - as if it can't decide what gear to use. It's even backfired once or twice.

It seems to tick over fine.

Has anyone else experienced such issues?
Any idea what might cause it?

Thanks

Hey, welcome to the forum & congrats on the purchase!

Have you done a 'Stage 0' on it?
Is the CEL on?
Have you checked for ODBII codes?

Ok - sorry for the late response.
I realised pretty quick that I was out of my depth here so I checked it in with a mechanic I trust.
There was a split in the waste pipe coming out of the turbo.
Also a load of gunk under the distributor cap.

Got it back yesterday and it's immense.
Took it for a test lap around the ring road and it's a belter.

Happy owner.

Glad to hear you got it purring like a kitten. If you spend some time searching the forum, you'll be able to pick up a lot of solutions to problems and be able to handle the repairs yourself. The cars are pretty easy to work on, compared to some others. It's a great site with lots of information and helpful people.
