S40 accelerating issue

S40 accelerating issue
Just purchased a 2002 S40 'manual drive' and have noticed what seems to be an intermittent problem with the car's acceleration.
Works fine when on the move. Absolutely fine.
Then 'only ' sometimes whenyou come to a completestop, and you look for aggressive acceleration (say at a roundabout) the S40 is unresponsive and slow off the mark.
Closest thing I would describe it to, would be like trying to start in a higher gear without the stalling.
Putting the accelerator to floor still unresponsive and slow build up of speed, change gear into second and foot to the floor and still no acceleration, its only once it gets going ie 3rd gear that the power kicks in and normal driving occurs.
Also the orange up arrow light is on constantly, wether the car is suffering the above effects or not.
Anyone experience similar or have any ideas what the problem may be?

RE: S40 accelerating issue
the reason your not moving is because of that orange arrow, thats your winter weather mode which locks the car to only three gears, you have to figure out why its coming on and how to deactivate it....on the automatics, it comes on if you have the car in drive 4 or 3 and or if you hit the w button located by the shifter.....
