[align=left]The degregation of the fluid is slow, you won't really notice a difference as time goes by, but when you put new fluid in it should make a big difference.

About the brake fluid, it absorbs moisture over time, and while the brakes may work fine, the moisture in the system may corrode inside the metal parts. When I did mine, I believe the fluid was of original, means no one bothered it for 12 years. As I flushed/bled the system, I saw what looked like a paste gunk coming out of the right-front bleeder screw.

The braking performance may be ok, as long as you don't do a lot of hard braking in hot weather or on steep downhill. But some countries make it mandatory that you replace the fluid or they won't let you pass the inspection. I think it was every 2 or 3 years in Japan, I'm curious about the situations in different countries.
