Thanks for all the responses.. does anyone know how labor intensive it is to replace the upper filler neck hose(s) if they are the culprit. i'm hoping i dont have to drop the entire tank! might be time to invest in chilton manual or something similar....anysuggestions. thanks again!!

Sometimes you can sneak the old hose out and new one in with out removing the tank. It all depends on the angle of the clamps.

I hope it is to where you can get to them. One you will access through the fuel pump access hole. The other one you will get from the side of the tank.

Unless you have experience working on the fuel system, I would consider getting a little bottle of Class-B fire extinguisher just in case (in case your Volvo or the house catches on fire, your wife/girlfriend may set a fire on you[:@]). I think you can find one for $20 or so at Walmart/equivalent shop.
