Default Rear Shock DIY

I've looked around but I haven't found any info on this.

Does anyone have a quick link about replacing rear shocks?

Thanks in advance

I looked around and this is all I could find. Doesn't look too tough. Never done it myself though.

It's pretty straight forward as far as rear shocks go, the procedure in that link will show you what you need to know. There's more about it on brickboard.com if you go there and search.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that when you go to break the bolts holding the upper shock mount in place, the two nuts that are tac welded up inside the body may break free. That's if you replace the mounts which you probably should since it's time for the shocks then those may need changing out too. Have extra hardware on hand just in case those tac welded nuts do twist off. It also helps if you have two jacks to work with.

I am going to get springs and shock mounts.
One side is noticably saggin like a bad boob job!

Is there anything else I should get while I'm in there?

Just ordered:
Rear Shocks
Rear Springs
Rear Mounts
Rear Spring Bump Stop Retaining Pin (only 1.75. Don't know what it is but hate to get into something and then need a part).

I will then tackle this as the link makes it look easy!

I hear you... I have a set of Bilstein TC shocks w/4-5k miles on them that no one in my house is using if you want or need them, pm me if you're interested.

What did you get if you don't mind me asking?

Good for you, glad to hear it went ok. Now you have to do the fronts...j/k but...you probably will if they're original and the back needed to be done.

lol... yes the fronts are original but they won't get touched for another 6 months....

I actually had to get tires for the back as they were getting bald due to the poor shock/spring issues.

Also I think the job went quicker when you replace the upper shock mounts. no need to get the top nut of the shock.. .just pull the attached shock right out through the shock tower hole!

rock n roll!

As long as you're not "bouncing" down the road or hearing any "clunking" up front as related to struts then finish using what you got I'd say

No clunking but there is just a slight bit of bouncing. just a slight bit.
However, I did look underneath and the next 2 problems are:
1. CV boots are both ripped
2. Power stearing rack back seal is leaking.

I got them from: FCP Groton
http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo850shocks.htm

the shock mounts from them are only 15.00 each.
Make sure you get the plastic clips for the shock bumper. they are about 1.75 each.
springs were about 41.00 each.
I would suggest the rear shock mounts if you don't have an impact wrenchas it probably will save you about 40 minutes to an hour.
good luck.
