Default Remove engine from top or bottom?

Removing noisy engine this weekend
Vadis,Shop key and Alldata say to remove engine/trans from top but it looks easier to remove subframe complete with drivetrain from bottom

Any suggestions to make this job faster/easier?

thanks

I just completed a clutch problem marathon where I removed the transmission in my 850 a total of 4 times before I got the problem worked out. I would think that if you have a lift available then to remove it through the bottom would be the most straight forward. You have to remove both the axle shafts either way and there are only 4 main bolts (plus 4 little bolts holding sheet metal) which hold the engine support to the chassis. If you don't have a big lift then out through the top is the only way to go.

Having done it several times. Without a lift, its the only way I can think of doing it.
Raising the front of the car high enough to get the engine out from underneath seems nearly impossible.

Be very careful with the heater hose connection at the firewall. Very delicate and breaks easily! Ask me how I know.

Good luck.

I'm at a repair shop and after asking my coworker,he has only removed from below.
Looks like the best way for me
Surprising that even Volo's manual(Vadis)says to remove from above(very tight fit).

For the whole engine out the top. If your just doing the transmission then bottom. So it really depends on what tools you have at your disposal.
