Default Reverse light sensor

I have a '95 850 5sp. stick, reverse lights are not working...bulbs are ok fuse is ok, I haven't taken a multi-meter to the plugs in the tail lamp assy. to confirm voltage, but the fact that both are out, and there aren't any other malfunctioning bulbs makes me suspect another source for the problem.

Does anyone know where the reverse gear sensor is inthis car? on the transmission, or in the gearshift lever assy.?

thanks for any info, the car is new to me and I don't have good service manual yet...

Default Reverse light sensor

got the info from my mechanic (and the part to fix it), the reverse gear sensor switch is on top of the gearbox right under the air cleaner assembly.

Hey David/anyone,

I know this is reviving an old post, but the no reverse light thing has me perplexed. Can you tell me the part# and the sensor name, if you haven't forgotten? I've searched vlvworld.com but got no where. Also, is this thing actually in the center floor console where the shifter is or above that console.

Thanks,

Depending on who you talk to it is either a gear position sensor or a (PNP) switch.Park Nuetral Position sensor. It is located under the linkage at the transmission where the shifter cable meets the trans.
You will have to remove the battery tray to replace it.

There is also a special tool to adjust it properly.

Thanks Tech!

It was the PNP sensor two hours labor and a new sensor $275.00. But it works and I couldn't pass inspection without it.

Thanks Again,
