Default RPM sensor

Can anyone tell me if the rpm mag pick up should be strongly magnetic? I pulled mine due to intermittent rpm signal code and found it to be quite weak. It would barely attract a small screwdriver when held close. I'm curious if it gets weak with time and causes a faulty p/u signal.

Hi Tech,
could you elaborate on that? I'm used to the magnetic P/U style that measure hertz as a ferrous tooth passes across the P/U.

They really aren't magnetic.
They just measure the distance in the Other piece. Mostly by electric. If it has any magnetic feild then it should be when the car is running only.
