Wink RPM Spike

Hi all:

My 1996 850 turbo has a RPM spike when I am driving for no apperant reason (i.e, I can just be maintaining a steady speed and the RPM will spike). It kinda seems like it wants to shift but doesn't. I back off of the accelerator and the RPM will stop the spike and carry on normally.

I flushed the tranny a year and three months ago.

Any idea on what the problem may be? The car has 85K on it.

The check engine light had been on. I think it was a "manufacture specific drive train code." I will check for codes again and make a note and get back. It seems like I have heard that a code reader will sometimes pull codes even if there is no light on. I will find out.

Yes, The code reader can show codes that are 'pending' and have not triggered the light. Tranny Fluid level?

Exclamation update.

I had the guy at Baxter pull the codes. The only thing that is coming up is a P0172 system too rich bank 1. He said he checked the transmission CPU -- no codes.

I was thinking is it possible that my RPM spike is because the ECM is sending inaccurate information to the TCM thus causing the RPM spike???

In other words, do you think it is possible that the P0172 code would give me RPM issues?

I have a seperate thread going about P0172 codes and it appears that it may be because of a vaccumm leak. I still have not been able to track it down.

That code can affect the idle/RPM of the car.
