Scratched Roof Solution

Scratched Roof Solution
I'm new to Volvo, just bought my first one this week. 1997 Volvo 850 Base. The car is in good shape, although the roof looks like snow was removed with a metal shovel. There are scratches everywhere. Bad ones all the way down to the primer and some areas of chipped and peeling clear. It's awful looking, but frankly, I don't want to spend anything respraying the roof. The car is Pewter Silver Metallic FWIW. Has anyone had any luck with any DIY solutions? Vinyl wrap or otherwise for the roof? It's had to see, but when you can see it, it's rough looking. I've never done vinyl wrapping, but I am pretty good with my hands and capable of most repairs.
Thanks.
Thanks.

does your car have roof rails or trim strips? on my 850 wagon the roof trim strips peeled and I found 1 inch wide electrical tap lasted about 3-4 years. If you have a sun roof that'd complicate things as well as roof trim etc. You may find the cost of vinyl wrap about the same price as as simple respray - best to price it out or visit a shop to see how it looks on a real install. Then there is the issue of whether the roof will look different from the rest of the car if you only vinyl the top... PS my roof looks like it was cleared with a shovel as well. Probably because my daughter in fact used a shovel to clear the snow on a number of occasions... :-)
