Default Speaker popping

Hi folks,

Just throwing this out. What could cause the left front door speaker to pop when the stereo is turned up around halfway or a little more? I've already swapped speakers and it still does it so it is not the speaker, and I have also checked the speaker connection and they are clean and tight?

Radio maybe, or amplifier? System is factory stock except for speakers which were replaced about two years ago.

You might want to be sure that you don't have the polarity reversed. I did that when I installed new dash speakers. Popping and low sound levels. I switched the wires around and they sounded perfect. Just a thought.

polarity will not cause any popping noise. It has to be a connection at the amp or the head itself. Loose or frayed wires will cause that to happen. The only thing you can do is track down problem wiring. sorry

I could do a search, but could someone tell me where they hid the amp? I can get the radio head unit out easy enough to check the wiring back there?

Thanks,

Glenn

from everything I've heard and seen its usually behind the head unit if it has one. I also read once that it could be under the passenger seat, but I've never seen one there

Amp (if you have one) is located right in front of the heater core, between the heater core and the radio. Mounted to the center console hump.

Popping typically comes from the amp or internal radio amp, not the wiring (unless the wiring is grounded or shorted somewhere but unlikely).

Pull the radio and check the impedance of the speakers and impedance to ground.
If you have an amp the harness will go from the radio to the amp and from the amp back up to the radio where you can unplug it from the car. Its very easy to bypass amps in these. If you do have an amp, unplug it and plug the radio directly into the car harness and test. If the pop is gone, its the amp. If still there and you have a second radio to test with, try it.
Back to the speakers. If they turn out fine then its going to be the amp or finals in the radio. Both would require repair. If the speakers are grounded or shorted, find and replace or fix it.

Son has the car out of town for the next week, but once he gets back, it sounds like I have some checking to do........

Thanks,

Glenn
