Default speedometer works- odometer doesn't

Anyone tell me why my speedometer works fine but my odometer has stopped working. Is this a hard fix- 1993 850- no turbo - 114,000 miles. Thanks!

There is a very small nylon gear that turns the odometer that has broken. A new gear is $25 and there are instructions on this forum for the job. I've done several successfully.

And here is a link to the gear. These seem to break on all the 850s at some time.

I've been reading the posts on it ('cause I'm getting ready to do it myself) and it looks like it's just a time consuming thing, especially if you need to roll the odometer to the correct mileage. Just be careful when moving the center cluster so as not to scratch it – and your hands - up. While you’re in there, might as well replace any blown bulbs, too.

It is not a hard job but it will take some time. Just be patient and you will be fine.

Did mine in April. I removed the whole dash (about 8 more screws ;mostly to remove glovebox) ; Well worth the extra 25 min., because you will have total access to the cluster without distorting the dash. Be sure to disconnect battery before you begin and don't forget to remove the wire to the pass. airbag. Simple job, just take your time and be patient reinstalling the dash for a perfect fit.

Thank you all for your help- I ordered the gear- just waiting for it to get here! Just out of curiosity- how many hours should it take to accomplish this- providing you don't run into any unforeseen problems?

Give yourself a few hours to avoid any self-induced pressure and you'll be fine.
