Top strut mount loose
95 850- new purchase, hear a squeek squeek on the right front. I discovered on the right side I can turn the top strut mount with my hand! stuff isnt centered like on the left side. Can this be centered and tightened up? and if the 3 mounting bolts are left in, is it safe to remove that center nut and tighten it all up? Dont have the bucks to buy new struts right now...thanks Dave

If the strut mount is bad (and it sounds like it is) then you dont necessarily have to replace the strut...but you will have to do the mount and/or bearing plate that they mount into. It involves removing the assembly and swapping them out for new ones.
IPD heavy duty is the way to go on these.

ibi- Yeah I wondered if there was worn stuff in there. Looked at the FPC site- Are you thinking strut mount and spring seat? And could I just get away with doing the one (loose) side or have to take both sides apart? looks like I could do both sides for 75$
Going in for state inspection tomorrow- new brakes and tires, no lights on- should pass ok, I'll ask about just a tighten up, see what they say. D

If you can spin it all the way around, that's not the strut mount, that's the spring seat. You can't spin the strut mount because it's bolted in place. And I would not advise loosening any of those bolts without spring compressors on the springs. Take the struts out, spring compressors on, replace the spring seat and strut mount, put back.
