Ok, I finally got the module from Victor. He was gone for 10 days right after I paid him, but we got that straightened out and he overnighted the unit to me.

Now my ABS and Traks lights are off and my ABS is working, but my oddomter and tripometer are still not working. They worked fine before the ABS unit went out. Also the car is stalling when I put it in gear. It will run fine for a while and then just sputter and stall. I'm thinking I might have knocked a vacuum line lose when I took the air filter box out.

HMM the ABS module shouldn't affect the speedo or odometer on the 850. That is as far as I know.
I haven't seen them knock it out.
But weren't you buying another one to install?
Did he send you back the old bad module?

No he did not send my old unit. I bought another unit from him.

Edit: Victor replied to my e-mail and said it's not the ABS module causing the problem with my odometer. The speedometer does work, so I probably need to buy the new odomet kit from IPD and put it in. I guess it's just a coincidence that it went the same time as the ABS module.

The stalling is very bad though. Need to look for a lose vacuum line I guess.

How hard it is to put that oddometer kit in?

Not to bad but you might want to have the son in law put it in the screws are small on the odometer.
Also read my post about removing the dash pad to replace the dash bulbs.

I really like the term "ABS Modulectomy". sort of like Colbert's "Truthyness"

Just started reading this thread now. I have an ABS unit in my car now that is flaky when hot. I'm sure it is cracked solder joints, just haven't opened it up.

I grabbed an ABS unit the last time I was at the pick-a-part yard. It was a TRACS and ABS unit, I don't have TRACS. I think I paid $10 for it. There are a lot of 850s there, and most still have the ABS units. Sounds like they are worth a lot more to others :-)

Try him Im not sure exactly how much from him but he gives a 5 year warranty.
When I can spare some $$ I am having the wifes rebuilt from him.
Hers is bad now.
Update: I have had my ABS/TRACS light on for about a year now. I finally got around to getting it corrected and I followed your advice on having Victor rebuild/upgrade my module. In the process he corrects original design flaws and the total rebuild is a fraction of the cost of a new one, or even a rebuilt one from a place like FCP Groton (179.00 plus shipping). $125 plus shipping is the base for my 96' 850 turbo wagon with tracs. I think my total bill was around 145 with the package insured for 300.00 both ways. The turn around time was fewer than 6 days.

His website has removal instructions, with pictures, that are easy to follow for the novice as well as further details as to what he does to the units. If you have additional questions he also responds quickly to emails.

I thought I would pass on a recommendation for him because the service I received was great, the timing was great, the price definitely great and the finished product is great. This also includes 5 yr warranty but he estimates that it will last the life of the vehicle once repaired.

Trustworthy independent mechs like Victor are the way to go!

So what's the deal with speedometer not working when abs/tracs lights are on? I see some people have working speedo even with the abs light on?!
My friends '96 850 just turned on abs/tracs and his speedo stoped working. (tach is working). His blinkers are not working either. Could this whole mess be caused by bad abs module?
