You are over thinking. Use the 94 ECU but a newer one if you chuck the EGR.

Haha. Ok. I think I understand. I'm just going to go with the engine with the lowest miles that I can find, a 94 transmission, and I'll swap/upgrade the ECU accordingly.

Yeah, to make that work, you'd have to re- do the whole ABS system... I believe 96 is when they went to the setup where the ABS module provides the vehicle speed signal. (as well as the switch to the ABS modules that fail all the time...)

There are people on vs that when they do manual swaps they have to deal with that, and I'm pretty sure all you have to do is tap into a couple wires on the ABS module or something like that, I don't think it's to the extreme of redoing the whole ABS system. But at the same time, when you do that, the odometer is off by like 5 mph...I think.

It is a mightmare from what I have been reading on VS. I wanted to put a S70 cluster in and you would have to basically do the same thing to get a 96 tranny in.

I stopped thinking about it right away!!!
The 96 and 97 you can drop in an early 98 speedo cluster and go and it all works fine.

I wish it wasn't like that, I would love to put a 98 S70 cluster in there so I didn't have the turbo gauge on the cluster and only have the aftermarket one. I'll probably end up dropping a 94/95 850 cluster in that doesn't have the turbo gauge on it into my wagon.

One other question, probably for Tech... Maybe this should be a different thread in the S70 forum, but since we're talking swaps... I'll ask it here. I have access to the engine and transmission for a '98 S70 T-5 manual. what wiring would I need to screw around with in order to put this drivetrain into my '98 GLT automatic? is it too much of a pain to be worth it? The car it came from was too badly damaged (accident) to be fixed, but I have the wheels from it already on my car, and I'd love to turn my car INTO a T-5, but if it's too much of a PITA, I'll pass on it.

Can you get the whole car?
You will need the pedals, shift cables,T-5 computer. SO if you can get the whole car you can just swap it all over.

That's why I just bought the wagon mainly for the swap. And then after I make it an Auto it will be for the daughter to drive.

Unfortunately, before I could ask about it, the engine and trans were cut out of it in a half- assed hack job sort of way, all cables and wires were cut... dumbasses. I'll probably wait a while and look for one with lower mileage, anyway... this one had close to 200k on it.

I would say if you can find a manual, don't hesitate with it even if it has a lot of miles on it, only because finding a manual in the first place is hard, and if you want to wait until you find one with low mileage, is going to be any harder. Especially with the S70's, they originally imported only 300 S70 M's to the U.S.
