turbo PROBLEMS!

I think it has bad seals or something? it was brand new tho... did everything right and it just billows smoke and oil gathers in the tailpipe. i gotto say tho, those obx full stainless exhausts look way sexy on a wagon (imo, better than the fit for sedans). either way, i'm trying to get up with the company i got it from, hopefully they'll replace it.

ok, today i took out the turbo and discovered there was a peice of plastic in the oil return line. i took it out and cleaned it up, reinstall. start it up no smoke run it lightly back and forth in front of my house; no smoke. let it idle and take for another run a lil harder and mucho but not as much smoke as yesterday. did i blow my seal with the oil outlet plugged?

Hmmm, the oil is delivered to the turbo under pressure. With the plug it must have been finding a way through the seals. Hard to say if it blew the seal or if the seal will recover. Since its new, you might survive this. I would be a bit worried about the bearing journal and lack of oil. Sounds like oil was getting there and escaping through the seals so there was some transfer, again, you might survive this. Time will tell.
Sorry to hear, its a lot of work to swap stuff out to have to do it again. Are you kicking yourself for not seeing it?
