Default Volvo 850 Engine Noise

My 94 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon starting making a whining noise. I assumed that it was the power steering pump, but now I am not so sure. Here is a link to a video file that I uploaded showing the engine running with the whining noise.

I was going to just replace the power steering pump, but then I thought I better double check to see if anyone else recognizes this noise.

Thanks.

I'd take the belt off and spin the alternator and PS pumps to see how they feel and if there is any noticeable noise from either. Also the tensioner pulley.
What condition is the serpentine belt in ??

Also run the engine without the serpentine belt and see if you still have the noise. Could be under the timing belt cover, belt, water pump, belt idler.

Thanks for the reply, Kiss4aFrog. That's a good idea to take the belt off.

Serpentine belt is in good shape. I replaced it around 7,000 miles ago. At that time, I had the engine out on a stand and I was going through things before dropping it back in the car. I replaced all the wear items under the timing belt cover like the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner. I used OEM parts, so hopefully nothing is wrong under there. The noise is probably the PS pump, alternator, or the tensioner pulley bearing. Your idea of taking off the belt should make that clear.

I'd add the AC clutch to the list of usual suspects - may be a good time to use a "listening tube" (a piece of hose you can hold to your ear and place near the various components )

Yup, I forgot the AC

BUT . . . don't make the mistake that a new part is known good or that it isn't about to fail. Much less likely the new stuff is going bad but it can happen.
Be a good mechanic cop, suspect everything until you rule it out.
