Default Volvo 850 Radio Issue

This might be a stupid question but you don't know unless you ask. My OEM radio all of a sudden stopped working, it doesnt even power on. Even though it does not work the lights work, so the numbers glowand a few other things....so there is still power going to it. I checked the fuses and everything was fine, I even took the radio out and did not smell anything like fried wires(if it burnt out). Is the radio broken, is it a electrical issue....any advice about this issue would be greatly appreciated.

You most likely need a new radio.
About all you can do is check to make sure the radio has switched power leading to it and a good ground. Beyond those two checks it's something internal and usually isn't worth trying to find a shop to repair it.

Yeah I thought so,its better to get a second opinion though lmao. I did end up hooking my friends radio up to it to check if it could be the wires and ended up blowing his radio up...good thing it was one of his spares. I might just use my phone for now on...I have a radio on it lol

Just a Q, did you happen to try to input the code several times and it failed? It will lock down and you have to wait for some time (hours) with the key on. But since you did not mention doing this I am going with Kiss4afrogs answer.

If you end up getting an aftermarket radio this is a storage pocket to take up the extra space of our double DIN radios. I know they can be ordered through OReilly auto parts and I'm sure other parts stores can get them too.

Thank you for your answers......boxpin nah it was not locked out, just stopped working....I wish that was the problem. Driving with out a radio is like going to work naked....akward/uncomfortable...and oh yeah boring which does not relate to going to work naked. Thank you Kiss4afrog ill check it out.......I don'tknow why the radio just blew up....it was a mistubishi radio....and i hooked the big side up to it...and there is a smaller connection which i was guessing was for the alarm etc. So do you think that is why...all the wires were not connected? Also I did buy a harness for it but couldnt figure out how to wire it to his radio so thats why i settled on hooking the bigger connector up only. Thank you again.

I would try your old radio in another car. My guess is that your amp has gone out. I have 2 of them somewhere. I'd have to find them.

Hrmm that sounds more accurate than the radio just blowing up sense the radio still has power going to it. How much do amps usually run for, the junk yard might have one if *second question*....I knew where to locate the amp.

Right now im using a alarm clock radio in my car hahaha...it works but at the same time I hate to have my 850 in this condition...taped together and not 100 percent.

The amp is usually behind the ash trey, mounted against the air box that holds the heater core. You can usually see it when you pull the radio. If I find a pic I'll post it. It would be mounted in a bracket. I drive sometimes with no sounds on, helps me learn & hear my car noises.

Yeah I hear you, its always good to know the sounds of your car......so you can see if something is messed up. I will look in a little bit to see if i can see it, that would be great if you can find a pic. Thank you again for the timely response....cant wait to get it fixed.

Could not find a pic. If you can't see it behind the radio you may have to take the piece under the steering wheel off and then pull the carpet down from the side of the center.

My radio gets plenty of static noise when I turn on the rear defogger.
