Two easy things to check; power steering fluid and the serp. belt. Do they look OK?

Lots of people say that the steering pump is a rock-solid device, but it may be shot – dunno how to test it, though.

Did the problem occur immediately after you changed the serp. belt?

If it's the pump here you go

http://www.pskits.com/catalog/-c-61_96.html

Mine was leaking and I bought this kit and rebuilt the pump. You have to have a pulley puller, not a gear puller, auto zone has it as a free loaner. Pay very close attention to how it comes apart. The vanes have to go in the same way and the pump rotor is has to be aligned just right on the roll pin and inlet and discharge ports. I used lucas PS pump fluid and it is soooo quiet even when I hit the stops.

My Dad's 850 is doing the same thing, I'm about to go pull a pump but after reading this, that may not help. were you able to figure out what was wrong with your power steering?
