Default Warning lights stay on AND no power steering

I have a 93 850 with about 200K miles on it. The other day when I start the car, the following 9 warning lights stay on AND the power steering went out at the same time. The lights are:

- low washer fluid
- low fuel
- bulb failure
- generator not charging
- brake warning
- parking brake applied
- check engine
- service engine
- low coolant level

I found a previous thread with similar problem, and as a result I check the starter connection (which are ok). Unfortunately I cannot reset the immobilizer, since the remote hasn't worked in years. Day before this happnened, I had the AC serviced, and on the ride home hot a nasty pothole. What else can cause the two problems (warning lights on & no power steering) and are hese problems related? Thanks!

I would say they are related. Is the serpentine belt on and turning the alternator, power steering and AC compressor? Just open the hood when it's running and look if the power steering pulley is turning. The alternator is right under it and the compressor is underneath that.

Ah, thank you. Now I just need to replace the belt tensioner and hope that'll will solve the problems...

It should.

If the belt isn't tight enough, your accessories and other things aren't going to function properly, thus throwing codes.

Default warning light issues

I had similar issues with warning lights and a local volvo mechanic suggested to have my alternator / battery tested. Turned out that my battery had a bad cell and that the voltage variances were creating false readings on the vehicle sensors. Worth a look into perhaps.

So did the tensioner fail and the belt fell off or did the belt brake?

The tensioner failed. Replaced the tensioner and the belt, and it's running smoothly now. Thanks everyone!

The same thing happened to me, one of the pulleys actually broke off and had melted to my engine. Kinda funny I thought.
