Default Who wants a good laugh/cringe?

Ok, so i take off the passenger side rear wheel to do a brake job, and this is what i find behind the rotor. There was some clanging around the past few days so i thought i'd check it out. Anybody wanna take a guess as to what might have happened? I just bought the car about a month ago, runs fine except for this one looming issue. The pieces of metal that are in my hand are what fell out when i took off the rotor. Any help or guesses would be much appreciated. I do have to say though, it polished things up nicely.

That mechanism on the bottom is what the e-brake cable attaches and activates the brake shoes. Looks like you're missing a chunk of it.

Yes that top piece is the ABS sensor. That is exactly what looks like happened is the e-brake shoe material came loose and wiped parts out.

Thanks for your help guys, definitely appreciate it. I'll have to pick up new sensors for the back wheels since they only come in a pair, but that defeintly explains why my abs light went on. I'll get to fixin it and let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks again!

Think i would hit the bone yard first; you're going to need the backing plate that the shoes rest on, all the other pieces that used to be in there, etc. from the looks of it. Could be a small fortune if you have to buy new, and most of that stuff is only available at the dealer...

Also that is all stuff that really doesn't wear out ('cept for the shoes of course..).

My $.02

Uh, FCP Groton has been on the web for a while. They're also on this forum and volvospeed and have member discounts.

Not exactly sure which backing plate you're talking about, but if you mean all the hardware for the e-brake shoes, they sell all that at FCP and it's actually pretty cheap.

I had no idea they had been on the web for a while, they're only a fifteen minute drive from me so i just pop into the retail shop. I've had audi's for the past ten years so i usually hang out on the audi forums and they haven't advertised there yet, although i hope they do i 'd really like to see them expand, they're a great company.

Oh, and i'm pretty sure gdog means the dust plate.

If you are that close to FCP, maybe the shipping fees would be less. Who am I kidding, there is no way I would wait for a part if they are only a 15 minute drive. But if you get free shipping, you will save time & gas. That would be $2.75 in gas and whatever your time is worth.
