Question 2007 Volvo C70 6MT Mystery Engine Problem?

This is my first post. I tried a local mechanic and he couldn't figure out what is causing my problem so I am going to try the dealership next week. I would appreciate any advice before getting screwed hard by the dealership.

The car has 39,000 miles and never had an accident. The check engine light came on while driving and then a loud whistling noise from the motor. The car is idling hard and revving slightly higher than usual when not in gear.

Aside from the annoying sounds and hard idle the car drives. I brought it to Strauss Auto and they think it is the turbo. Nothing comes up from their diagnosis tool. They showed me when the oil cap is removed the noise seems to go away but there is a large suction coming from the oil cap you can feel when you put your hand over it like a vacuum.

When I turn the car off the whistling continues for a few more seconds making me think something is winding down. When I start the car up the whistling is not that noticeable but as I continue to drive it becomes more and more noticeable.

Any advice for this newbie? By the way first thing I did was a search and couldn't find anything. thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It really sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Please post back when you get it fixed so other's can learn.

It turned out to be a crack in the oil case from what I was told. The tech explained the entire engine works under pressure from the turbo and the crack in the oil case caused a lack of pressure causing all the problems. Even though my warranty just expired I was told this particular problem is so common Volvo extended the warranty coverage for this particular problem for 7 years, 100,000 miles. I am happy to say I was not charged anything however Volvo should be more proactive and contact all their affected T5 customers and exchange the oil case before the problem occurs. I was told by the tech the new oil case used to replace my existing oil case has been improved to prevent such a problem from reoccurring. The oil case with the design flaw lasted me over 4 years so other less fortunate affected T5 owners may experience the problem outside the 7 year coverage.
