I am having the same issue as everyone else and I've tried a few different fixes. The dealership wants $1300 just to begin and that's using the headliner I have. The potential cost is somewhere around $3200.

So I'm wondering if anyone has been creative and customized the headliner. It has moving parts under the headliner so I"m not certain anything else but original would work. Help!

I always wonder if it's possible to just remove the entire headliner and be done with the threat of the falling headliner ruining roof operation.
Maybe just put some upholstered panels and dynomat on the roof in it's place.

 

I'm just about at that point if I can't find someone local to help. My problem now is with cables and attachments, not so much with the headliner itself.

I could swear I read about someone who removed his headliner and drove it that way; but I'll be danged if I can find that thread/post.
I would be sad to leave Bluebell in that condition; but I'd be tickled to have the ability to drop the top once again!!!
Gonna take three of us just to get the top into 'service position' , I reckon. I tried to lower the top this week and it's binding in a way I've never experienced before.
Fortunately, I was able to put the top back into the closed/up position; but I'll be sad if Bluebell is just a coupe from now on!!!

 

OK, this complex problem needs to be solved by Volvo. Call around to their facilities and see which one has experienced, C70 repair people for the roof. I bought a good, used 2013, but the headliner was messed up. The (Mercedes dealership had to send it to a Volvo shop to have it repaired. The used car salesman was reluctant until I pointed out that if it's not repaired, I'd walk away from the deal and they still would have to have it repaired. The Volvo repair shop guarantees the new headliner for life, and you can't beat that. Yes, it'll cost you in the thousands, but since you love the car, and they're becoming scarcer, and, increasing in value, you'll not regret that decision. Even if you have to go far away to that Volvo facility and maybe even have to spend the night(s) at a roach motel, the result will be the best.

What part is guaranteed?
certainly not the electronics and hydraulics.

 

If Volvo fixed it with their parts, in their shop at their prices, it is guaranteed for the time of the owner's possession of the car. The Volvo shop I use (Stillmans in West Chester, PA) guarantees whatever they repair.

The left rear corner of the rear liner has unclipped. Will glue work for something like this?
Any advice? I have attached a photo.

 

On the inside of that panel is a tab that the elastic cord slips into. It's the reason why the wings retract as you operate the roof.
That tab can crack. If you're lucky, it's a small crack, just big enough for that the cable to slip out. On mine, it ultimately was complete broken.

There used to be someone online selling a 3d printed piece that you could use to repair.
Otherwise, you can sure it up with JB Weld and look for any cracks.

BEWARE- if you use the roof, those wing might not be retracting or returning into the correct place. So watch it and "help it" move as you open/close the roof. If not, they can be crushed and damaged even worse.

I eventually get so feed up with the stress of the headliner, making the operation joyless, I removed the back piece entirely. I had jbwelded, plastic welded, and I kept having problems. I do have a spare I pulled from a donor car in storage too.
I kept the headliner above the front seat (and that's all I generally ever see anyway)

 

Dux96 on YouTube has great videos on roof and cable repair for the C70. Easy to follow. Appreciate his efforts.
I was looking at some of the posts that have been put on this forum for the headliner and I noticed that I had repaired both my Headliners back in 2017. And they're still going strong because of the JB Weld that I used. But then I also park it under a carport in the Florida Heat. I'm sure that helps some.
More recently I replaced both the front L and R cable ropes for the retraction of the roof because part of the cables broke while I was fixing the headliner. I put up without a retractable roof for a few years and then finally decided to bite the bullet because I found a dealer that sold the ropes themselves for $100 less than my local dealer. They still cost me about $200 each. It's amazing to me how expensive they can be.
So my son and I decided to put the roof in the service position and started taking apart the cables and came across one section that was riveted in . We couldn't find a steel rivet to replace it with so we ended up putting a nut and nylon washer instead and it works just fine . That suggestion came from Dux96 when he repaired the back side of his roof cable (similar to what is described in the Pic above) . It's been functioning like a dream . Now if I can figure out a way to fix the heated seat switch without having to take the damn seat off completely, that would be a good thing . But that's a project for another day.
