Help- I,m stranded- key will notturn to the start position. It will turn to have the radio come on and then won't go any further. I have jiggled the key and steering wheel and nothing.
any suggestions?

I'll bet it is the ignition switch.

 

Which model is it?

I used to have a C70 hardtop, just sold it actually. Mine had about 115k miles on the clock when i had this problem. If it is the same as I had it is purely mechanical. You can get by for now by dismantling the cover over the steering wheel (two torx bolts) and then disconnect the ignition switch from behind. Ensure that the key is still in the ignition or a)steering lock may engage and b) immobilisermayfunction. Using a flat screwdriver you can rotate the ignition switch through to starter and then once the engine is running bring it back one click to the run position.

I had a new ignition fitted from genuine parts to suit my original keys, it cost me about £250 from an independent volvo dealer. It's a pain to fit as the original part may have to be sheered or ground off.
