C70 won't start

C70 won't start
I'm having a problem with my 2000 Volvo C70. The key won't turn to the start position. The remote lock/unlock had gotten smashed, so we were using the metal "service key". No problem for 2 days....then, my partner parked nose up on a hill, (rare here in Key West), and then the problem began. Taped up the remote and installed a new battery, looks ugly but works. Remote unlocks all doors, service key goes in ingnition and turns 1 click, panel lights, AC, etc come on... but I can't physically turn the key to "2" or "3" position. Could it be that parking on a hill (and maybe rolling a little bit in park) has confused the "start/neutral" switch? Thinking of rolling back to level ground and fooling with gearshift..... HELP!!! Volvo wants to tow it 160 miles to mainland, and then make me come and get it back!!!!!!!! Gina Maseratti.

RE: C70 won't start
Yes, steering wheel turns freely, it's the only key we have...it and remote work on doors, trunk, etc. Shift lock override works when key is in and turned to first stop, but key won't physically go to next posistion. Steering column/ ignition box seems a little loose. Wondering if someone tampered with it, but this car was fine 20 minutes before......

RE: C70 won't start
I only have the one key and the remote unlock fob. Got the car on level ground, tried everything, still no go. Do I have to go to Volvo to re-program???? Thank you, Gina. maseratti@bellsouth.net

RE: C70 won't start
Did you ever get your car fixed? I have a 2001 Volvo C70 and mine stopped working as well. I had issues with it not starting up all the time, but since it didn't happen ALL the time, I pretty much ignored it..., until one day it just wouldn't start AT ALL, unless I got a jump. Although I got a jump, I knew I had something else going on since I was told by the dealer that I needed to change my positive wire sooner or later. Well I jumped the car and drove down to Volvo. I had a few things going on that caused my problem. #1 - was that my positive wire to the battery was corroided, so I had to get another one. #2 - battery cable to relay box was BURNT and since this was going on, it drained my car battery so I had to get another battery as well as another battery cable to the relay box. #3 - the contacts on my immoblizer harness had to be soldered and retensioned. After that was done, by car started up fine. They did check the antenna ring and that was fine, but I expected that to be since I had it replaced about 1.5 years ago. To fix my problem came up to $817.36. [:@] $613.90 was LABOR!!!! [:'(]

Gina Maseratti here. After 1 year of starting the C70 with a screwdriver, I put it all back together and it works fine!!!!!!! Hmmm.......

Update: Fixed the problem by using liquid graphite lock lube sprayed on the key and in the key cylinder using the plastic tube. After working the lube into the cylinder and working the key in and out, the ignition unlocked and allowed me to start the car. Now I do this periodically on our C70 and also on my Volvo 240 as well.
