But it still works. Just started happening. It sounds kind of ugly but is really just noise. Window still moves at a decent speed. Is there something that can be done to fix this or am I about to replace the motor? I recall this to be an outrageously expensive repair.

Is it like a grinding noise?
If so then the regualtor is on its way out.
You would need to replace the regulator assembly.
