Default Hi all - C70 with starter noise...

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site. New to posting on a site. New to volvos. So you all may have your hands full with me. I bought a 1999c70 convert from my friend and I know it has alot of issues. I bought the car as a project to keep me busy and work on it at my own pace and learn. My first concern is a loud metal rubbing on start up that goes away after about 5 seconds. If I just tap the key on start you hear what sounds like 2 pieces of metal rolling together. It sounds to be coming from the starter area. Hi again and hope to hear your thoughts.

Hi and Welcome to the forum.

I moved your post to the C70 section so you can get some help with your issue.

Hopefully you have figured this out by now. There is a chance that you have a timing belt roller going bad. If this is the case, it can blow a roller, toss the timing belt and destroy the motor.

Maybe a bad starter solinoid. Observation of starter during starting might confirm. Maybe solinoid is bad causing it to hang up & not retract after engagement. You could remove the starter & solinoid & test it or take it to advance Auto or Auto Zone for testing. First make sure all wire connectors & wires are in good shape & have a good non corroded connection.
