Opening the trunk
Okay this is ridiculous but is there a way to open the trunk without using the key's remote? I can't find a button anywhere, not next to the fuel hatch button, nowhere. The manual is conspicuously silent on this, it tells you how to open it in case you're stuck inside. Thanks!!

I have a 2008. Not sure what year you have or if what I have is on your vehicle year. Yes, it is ridiculous. I can't tell you how much time I wasted myself trying to find a trunk release button.
If you flip your drivers seat forward and look on the verticle panel right below the bottom seat cushion, there may be a half moon cut in the carpet. Behind it is a key hole that allows you to use your metal blade key to hopefully open the trunk.
Honestly, after 4 years of ownership, I recently realized if I hit the Auto unlock button on my door, it unlocks not only my doors but the trunk!

Make sure valet button on bottom dash area is not lit
I have a 2003 Volvo S60 and was about to check wires and/or replace the pressure plate/handle because the trunk was not opening with a remote or manually. Fortunately I noticed this little button was lit, which appears to be a valet feature. Deselecting it solved my trunk-opening issues.
