Default Replacing the turbo

I found out today that the smoke that is coming out of my 2000 C70 after idling for a few minutes is from the turbo. The Auto repair shop quoted me 1400 dollars on the cost.I just found out that the cost of the part is 900 dollars. If I was to get this part on my own, how difficult is to change if I do it myself?

For $900 You can get yourself a bigger better turbo. I've yet to pull mine, but it looks easy enough to do. It depends on how mechanically inclined you are....

Yeah I'm with you man...I've done miner repairs. It all depends...as long as the part is easy to get to. If I find the repair book I believe it can be gone.

Its really not all that bad to do.
But also make sure the vent system is free and clear before just replacing the turbo.
