Default Roof not working - Need Suggestions

Earlier this week the roof on my C70 stopped working mid way between open and closed. My wife was closing it, I wasn't around to witness. It stopped with the hatch up, the rear window folded forward and the front of the roof hovering about 6 inches above the windshield.

I'm struggling a little to understand how the roof works, but I did manage to inspect a few things today. I believe I found 3 micro switches. 2 attached to the mechanisms that raise and lower the hatch, and 1 on the passenger side about 18 inches from the front of the roof. All are still attached where they should be, and the wires seem intact. How many micro switches should i find in total?

Am I correct that there are 4 motors involved? The motor in the back works, the two on the sides work, but I'm suspicious about the one mounted on the roof in the front.

The fuses are fine (41 &42). The windows are working properly. I have power to the switch, the trunk sensor seems not to be the issue.

From searching, I've determined that there are a number of things that can go wrong with these roofs, but I haven't found a comprehensive trouble shooting source. Any thoughts/guidance/tips would be appreciated.

The only instance with the roof was about month ago. After being open for about a month, it refused to close - no movement at all. I took it for about a 30 minute drive, and it resumed working properly.

Full disclosure - I'm mechanically inclined, but struggle greatly when it comes to electrical.

I did manage to close it manually today - that didn't reset it. I've tried the key fob reset suggestion too.

Not sure if this is the old C70 or the new hardtop, but either way there isn't much you can do without a scanner.

Old soft top.

Please tell me more about a scanner? Are you suggesting my Volvo dealer should have a scanner that can pinpoint the issue?

I wouldn't say pinpoint. But the Volvo Scan Tool (VST) is going to be needed to have any chance at this. Plus it will be needed for calibration after repair.

I did notice tonight that the rear reading lights don't have power now. Is anyone familiar with the wiring/routing to know if this could be on the same circuit as part of the roof? I know it is a stretch, but coincidental that both knocked out at the same time. Oh and all of the fuses are fine.
