'05 S40 wheel bearing bad at 22k?
Hi all,
Has anyone had problems with the '05 S40 wheel bearings going bad early?
Story (long): my girlfriend has a leased '05 S40 that is at Volvo again for front wheel noise / vibration. It feelslike warped rotors to me but her brother thought the wheel bearing(s) had gone bad. She took it back to Volvo yesterday and the tech who rode along said the wheel bearing is bad. So the parts were ordered but my girlfriend just received a call thatanother tech said tires need to be replaced (all cupped and at 3/32") and that is the noise we are hearing / feeling, notbad wheel bearingsā¦also the brake pads "look" fine. Volvo just rotated the tires3 weeks ago when they did the routine oil change and investigation for the same front wheel / vibration noiseand said nothing about bad tires. I'm no stranger to cars and tires (I have 235/35/19 Toyo Proxes 4 that I look at almost weekly) and her tires looked fine to me. Anyway, it sounds to me like a manager got involved and doesn't want to do warranty work on a part that should last at least another 60k miles (I replaced the wheel bearings / hubs on my Maxima at 80k & 90k myself and know what's involved). My girlfriend is waiting to hear back from Volvo once they talk to the original tech who wrote the order for the wheel bearing but I wanted to see if anyone else has premature wheel bearing issues.
Thanks!
Eric
