Default 2000 s40 ball joints

I need to replace the lower ball joints in the front, I was wondering if I can just change the ball joints and not the whole lower arm. The ball joint is about a tenth the cost. If I can just replace the ball joint, I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has done it before.
This is on a 2000 s40

I just replaced both arm on my car some months ago.At this age the bushings are gone.To take the ball joints out you would have to take the arm out anyway.I bought new arms with ball joint and bushings for a mere 100bux a piece.
