Default 2000 S40 Mystery Hose

I have coolant leak from a small J shaped hose that I am having trouble identifying. In the picture the hose is located just below the camshaft sensor... you can see the one end that is connected with the shiny ear crimp clamp. The other end of the hose drops down and connects to the engine block which is where leak is. Any idea what this hose is and has anyone ever changed it? Thanks in advance.

Im guessing that would be one of the hoses which is part of the pcv system. See the link below. I'm not sure you can buy the "j" part separately. You may be stuck buying the whole thing or heading to the junkyard for a partial replacement.

Thanks for your reply and you are correct on all accounts... the hose is part of the PCV assembly and it is not available separately... $120.00 US from the dealer. Might have to jerry-rig a piece of pressure hose if I can determine how to gain access to the bottom connection as it's in a really tight space not to mention the ear crimp clamps on the hose will have to be cut off. Has to be the worst place for a coolant leak....Time for a little prayer.....thanks again.

I agree. I had a devil of a time getting to that one when I replaced my pcv odds and ends. I think I ended up giving up on the piece of that hose that loops around to the back of the engine and instead just pulled the new piece off and fastened to the existing hose. Maybe you should take this as a sign that all your pcv related items should be replaced...:-).

If you take the metal turbo hose out as well as the Airbox and hose I believe that you will have much better access. That is not too much work.

Thanks for the tip on the airbox.... it's a little to late in the game for my beloved S40 to replace any other pcv items...270K miles and many other things are just wearing out. I am grateful that since the warranty expired only a radiator, a hose and water pump needed to be replaced.... the water pump was good but suggested as part of timing belt replacement. All in all a great little car my S40.

did you look at the OEM parts pages at sites like Tascaparts.com or Volvopartswarehouse.com? You may be able to find the individual hose at those dealer sites or simply try calling FCP to see if they can special order it.

I did speak to both Volvo and FCP and both say that the hose I need is sold only as part of the crankcase vent hose assembly.... In the photo on the right side it's the small piece with the metal fitting on the end in that curves up and back to the left. I'd hate to have to buy the entire assembly just for that portion.
