2001 S40 car radio code
No sometimes they put the code on a sticker and put the sticker on the radio. If it isn't there look in your owners manual for a credit card size piece of paper with a 4 digit number. If those both fail then you can contact the dealer with the VIN for your car and they can get the code. Be aware that sometimes they require you to bring the car to the dealership so they can ensure that you actually own and have possession of the car. Good luck.
I had that issue a while back when I needed to replace burnt out lights on my radio. The code was missing, so I gave the VIN to the local Volvo dealer, and they gave me the code. Thing was, the radio had been changed out, so I had to give the serial number of the radio to Volvo; then I got the proper code.
All is well now.

I replaced the battery in my 2001 S40 a while back and noticed I needed the radio code. It was about 8:30PM EST and I called a Volvo dealer in San Francisco and they gave me the code over the phone. Just keep trying dealerships until one gives you the code.
I've gotten the radio code from the dealer, but the incorrect code was entered, so the radio is off and I can't enter the correct code. I read somewhere that if you turn the ignition to 1(accessorie) for 2 hours, radio resets and allows you to enter correct code. any truth to that.
