Default 2001 volvo s40 - brakes at starting

so i've read what everyone is posting here about the brakes recall on this car and i checked with my dealer to see if there was a recall on the issue that everyone has had with brake feel at start. Well, i'm in Canada and they don't have anything that pertains to this recall.
Can someone assist me in what i need to do to fix it myself?

Help is much appreciated.

thanks

What exactly are your brakes doing to cause trouble? Your title says "brakes at starting" so I suspect your brakes are not working well enough at engine start? Do you hear the brake pump motor working when the car first starts?

On the first use of the brakes after starting the brakes don't seem work as efficiently as if after a couple of stops. I'm not sure what i here is the brake pump motor, i believe it is. Is there something that I can do solve this issue?

Does the brake pedal feel hard during the first stop? If it feels normal, it's probably not the vacuum assist pump.
Have you had the brake pads changed? I changed my brake pads to aftermarket and my brakes would only stop well after they warmed up... A few stops and they worked fine.
I switched to OEM brakes and they stop well even when cold. They stop better in every condition vs the aftermarket brakes I had (Wagner ThermoQuiet and Duralast).

it happens when it's cold, but it happens with both OEM and aftermarket, it's just the 1st time i use the brakes, could it be the pump or the hose?
