2003 volvo ss40 radio replacement
Good Evening everyone,
I drive a 1994 Volvo 850, love it. My sone drives a 2003 Volvo s40 which is what our question is about. Can we install a double din stereo in the s40 ? crutchfield says that it wont fit, maybe someone here has a little better info as to why it wont fit or if there are any modifications that we can make to allow us to install double din.
Also I was told that vehicle has an external amplifier and was told it has to be bypassed will that affect sound level and should I get a high output radio to offset amp having to be bypassed.
I would appreciate any info you have thanks

Double DIN radios are 7x4 and a volvo radio measures out at 7x4 3/8s or so. That says to me the DD should be able to fit but it may not have a standard mount kit. My 2000 S40 came with cassette and no CD so I simply grabbed an SC816 (what comes in a S70 or V70) on ebay for $50 and it snapped right in (just make sure the seller includes the code). The other thing with the factory radios is you can use the CD changer port and get a Grom MP3 connector. Check out ebay for your options
