Default 2005 S40 won't stay running

hi

I now have my daughters car that she left for me to deal with while she went to Alaska.

2 things that had an issue that I knew of

1. vacuum leak.
2. battery will go dead after 2 days of not driving it. brand new battery!

well it has a 3rd problem that evidently worked it self out before. and it will be a hard sell if I can't fix it.

I can start the vehicle and RPM's are at 1800 and after 5 seconds it stalls as though it runs out of gas, I can get it started most times right back up but same exact behavior.
there are times it will be about 800 RPM's and last may be 30 seconds

I replaced the sensor on the fuel rail with one I pulled from salvage yard. and still the same behavior.

I got a fuel pressure tester which I will try to get some readings.

what am I looking for?

thanks
Paul

I'd suggest that you should look for the vacuum leak - it might be the cause of your idle issues. Then you can look for what is draining the battery...

I just checked the pressure and while running it was about 8-10 psi. when I first hooked it up it was 0

I didn't notice if the fuel pump came on or not... how quiet are they in the s40?

My 2005 V50 used to run 55psi (IIRC - it was something in that range, anyway). I never had to work on my Volvo's fuel system (happily) - most modern cars have the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel pump itself - others are external, and may have a vacuum connection (obviously if this is the case, you're going to want to try to figure out that vacuum leak).
