Default 2008 s40 rear shock issues

i see a lot of rust on the rear shock absorber shaft cover tube right up at the top mount so i was thinking i will just put new shocks to take care of it since all of it will be new then, but the new shocks only come as the bottom half part without the upper tube that covers the shaft.

the upper tube is what i was thinking was an issue seeing it rusty, but if its its purely a dust cover and not part of the actual shock, then the rust on it doesnt matter does it?

the car only has 41k miles on it so im thinking the shock itself is ok so should i go ahead and just ignore that rust i see up there on top of the dust cover tube?

The upper tube is just a plastic cover and a bumper. There isn't anything there to rust. You can reuse it with new shocks.

hmmm, well when i look at it it sure looks like rust bleeding down around the top cushion part. dont see what else it can be to be that color

it sure isnt the mount because that is aluminum so maybe its just red clay that got splashed on it from wherever the car lived before i got it ????????????????

but i agree its just a dust cover so i will ignore it
