Flat battery
My wife tried to start her 2000 (W reg) S40 this moring and battery appears to be flat. As the car was serviced and MOT'd last week should the condition of the battery have been tested durring the service? I am going to place the battery on charge overnight as it won't jump start from my car and I'tt try again tomorrow. Could it be an alternator fault? Never had this problem in the past, just wondered if there would have been any other warning signs that the alternator may be on its way out.

chances are if your alt is going, the car would have died as you were driving it, once the battery was dead...so from it just not starting I'd call the place that serviced it and ask if they checked the battery. Not sure which part of the country your in but most automostive stores can test the battery for you.
You can service a car and something can go wrong the next day. Even a battery. I remember doing a state inspection on a Ford Focus and as soon as I went out the shop door a coil spring snapped for no reason and I always inspect for broken coils.
