I had this problem for a while now and it's bothering more than ever. The display is showing almost everything and weird symbols as well when the car is very hot at start up in the cabin. When I mean display almost everything, I mean it display the CD, TAPE, AM, FM, DOLBY PROLOGIC, CD "##OO". It still does play everything but its really annoying for the display. I am able to solder and look for electrical components if necessary.

Have you tried resetting it by disconnecting power then re-entering security code etc to see if that sorts it out.
The risk is however, if its getting ready to die it may turn out to be the last straw.

 

It's dependent if its cooler or hotter but sometimes works but it still displays the CD, TAPE, AM, FM on the upper left and the DOLBY PROLOGIC button dose not work from my point of view but it does play the radio, CD or tape if selected. I did take it apart today and I don't see any problems with it physically, so the second option is a bad code or something else.

 

Cant be the code if it is still functioning however erattically.
Use the radios code to reset it after power supply disconnection. It may sort out the gremlins within?
