Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you all might have some advice for me. I bought a 2006 S40 with 47K on it about twelve days ago. Five days in, it started stalling right after I started it up. Took it back to dealer. They changed the battery (genius!) but it continued to stall out. They are now going to try to repair it a second time. Since I'm in MA, I'm covered by the used car warranty law-- after three failed attempts to fix the problem within 60 days, I'll be eligible for a full refund. I love the little car, and I was happy to find it. Had a clean carfax, has been maintained by dealers, and has no other problems that I know about (yet). Any ideas on what the issue could be, or if there's an internal defect common to this model year? I would really appreciate any ideas. My parents have driven Volvos for 25 years and never had a serious problem, so I really thought I'd be getting a quality car-- and now I'm kind of stymied. Thanks!

 

I am not aware of any common defect that would cause that problem. However, I doubt that it is anything major and should be fixable (ie. vacuum line, contaminated fuel, idle control). A good mechanic should be able to find it, a bad one will frustrate you.

I was having the same problem with my 2005 S40. I'm in MA also. It was the vaccum line. Dealership fixed it at no cost since it was within the 30 days warranty from Jaffarian Volvo.
