Hello. I just recently bought a used 2001 S40 with a sunroof. I have never had a sunroof or moonroof before and am not very familiar...
I closed the sunscreen first (noticed in the manual afterwards that I shouldn't have done this...), then I hit the button to close the sunroof. It made a loud pop and now it won't close.
The sunscreen has 2 clips in the front that I can see and I popped those back in place but I can't see anything towards the backside. The buttons inside work, it will open (not sure if it even goes back all the way or not at this point) but when I close it, it will stop a few inches before fully closed and get stuck with a loud pop. The back of the sunroof at this point is at a much lower position than the roof of the car. There is also a black curved metal bar that is completely detached from the sunroof that I found towards the front side of the sunroof...
Is there any way to fix this without spending $1000+ at the dealer? If there is no easy way of fixing it, would i still be able to close the roof manually? Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance for replies!

 

Sunroof's are extremely expensive. Why did you close that while it was open? just asking.

 

Like i mentioned in my post, I am not familiar with sunroofs at all. None of my cars have ever had them. I didn't think it would matter if the sunscreen was closed or not before I closed the sunroof. I wasn't trying anything different or weird.. just wanted to close it. It was my first time in the car that day too..

That was a legit question. I have thought of doing it a few times and decided against it, and now i know that it was probably a good thing i didn't.

 

I have a moonroof with glass, motor, racks, everything as one piece off a 2000 volvo S40. I will sell it for really cheap. PM me if interested! I can get it to you ASAP. Once the fabric is off the moon roof comes out with a wiring harness and a few 10mm bolts!

Hello all,

I stumbled upon this thread since I recently had my sunroof glass shatter. The detailed instructions are great, but I did have a question regarding the glass replacement for my 2001 Volvo S40. Is it really as simple as the detailed instructions because I've searched everywhere and there is additional instructions regarding 4 screws and 2 C-clips that must be removed and I do not see that anywhere in the detailed picture instructions. Is there a specific way of just replacing the sunroof glass?

I bought my 2005 S40 brand new and it seems that after 10 years the slide shade material has rotted off. Is it possible to order a new shade?
