Hey there,

So I've never owned a Volvo and I'm afraid I may have gotten screwed on the 2000 s40 1.9T I just bought last night.

The check engine light is on. When the car starts up first thing it makes a really loud ticking/whirling/helicopter like noise from somewhere under the hood. My boyfriend says it's coming from behind the engine. It gradually dies off once it's been running.

Did I just sign up for major expenses here or is there any light at the end of the tunnel? I know it's not that much to go off of...I guess I should go get it diagnosed. But if you have any ideas on what it might be and how to fix, please let me know!

Sounds like you are really low on oil, need a valve adjustment or have bad lifters....check oil level and bring to a mechanic ASAP!!
