s40 brake fluid dot 4 vs dot 4+
i just bought a new 'used' 2001 s40 and noticed in the manual that the brake fluid is supposed to be dot4+.
i searched in internet about dot4+ but could not find any info. all there is difference between dot3 and dot4.
my local volvo dealer wants $20 for a quart of dot4+. all i need is just to top up.
can i use dot4 which is available in discount autoparts ?
thanks.

Dot4 vs. Dot3
No Problem on the Dot4. It is what you want. I just did a fluid change myself with the Dot4, and all is fine. The difference between Dot3 and Dot4 is the higher tempurature limits for Dot4. That means the Dot4 product will withstand tempuratures of about 50 - 75 degrees higher (+/-) that Dot3. The volvo braking system does need the Dot4, so make sure you get it, not Dot3. So go to the parts store and get it (for about $5 -$8). No need to go to the Stealer. Good luck.
