Default S40 stuck key - fixes?

My son experienced the "stuck key" problem on our S40 today - this time the usual remedy of popping out the shifter button didn't seem to work for him (it did eventually). Any recommendations on how to address more permanently to make the shifter button slide out naturally when moving the shifter to park?

For sure: go buy some "Fluid Film" penetrant/anti-rust stuff - I've tried other stuff but this works best for this problem. Silicon spray sort of works but only for about 4 months. Put the red straw on the can and shove the straw upwards into the button insert. Spray the crap out of it. You will have at least 2 years of trouble free operation.

I can try that - Walmart or Home Depot should carry it. Have you tried to disassemble the shifter **** to take a look?

I can’t remember if I have or not. The shifter **** is easy to pop off if you are interested. Just yank upwards, hard, and make sure your face is not directly above.

I took a couple of V70 shifters apart, early ones. Old grease just turns into wax, and there is a long area for sticky stuff to be where that rod moves through the center of the shift lever. The least bit of lubrication frees those up.
