Default Turbo or not?

Ok I know some volvos like the S40 cam with and with out a turbo, whats the best way to determine if the Volvo I have does or does not have a turbo? I don't hear the usual turbo sounds that most turbo cars make, but doesn't mean one isnt there...I know what to look for as far as a turbo looks like but wouldn't know where its located in the engine bay of the car

Thanks for the help you all provide!!

All 2000-2004 S40's in the USA came with the 1.9L turbo engines. Look at the badging on the rear for 1.9 T. The turbo is located on the rear of the engine below the heat shield.

For the 2004.5 and newer models in the US you look for T5 on the rear. The engine size is 2.5L for the turbo models. Again, the turbo is located on the back side of the engine.

Look under the hood. The turbo has a fresh air pipe going to it.

While driving on a safe road press gas pedal to the bottom. If at 3000 rpm you notice a sudden gain of power then you have a turbo.

You can tell on the freeway. When you go to pass a car floor it. If you pick up speed pretty good you have a turbo, if you look to the floor to make sure your foot is on the gas because nothing really happened, you DONT have a turbo. Lol

Agreed, check the VIN. Are you familiar with the VIN?

Also, what year is your car? Which country are you located?

All 2000-2004.5 S40s in the US are turbocharged.
