Volvo S40 TG headlights Xenon (4th & 5th VIN MS)
Hello Everyone, I am new here and I am searching for some answers. I have a 2004 volvo S40 and both the left and right headlamp assemblys Are bad. The wiring inside them is just falling apart. The plastic on the wires is crumbling into dust.
I need Headlamp Assemblies. After Calling over 68 junk yards and not finding any Xenon Headlamp assemblys I called Volvo and got their prices. $895 Dollars Each. I cant put this much money into a 2004 Volvo.
So my question is If i get Aftermarket HID's installed can anyone tell me if the dash Light That says Headlights are not working will go off if i install aftermarket HID's?
Also i should mention my Wipers are not working, and I know this could be affected by the headlights. and I hope they work after installation. But if not that is the next item i need to tackle.
Thanks Very much for your help!

The poorly designed headlights are not unique to Volvo. On each older Mercedes that we get (2002 to 2008) we typically toss the original headlights in the dumpster and install new ones. On those cars, the same problem occurs. The shorted wiring also takes out the SAM (signal acquisition module) so we have to replace that too.
We use aftermarket headlights that offer a warranty. I suggest that you look on eBay and see if there is a seller offering the HID headlight assembly for your car. It won't be as cheap as the halogen, but it won't be as much as the dealer.
Buying used is not recommended. They're junk too.

Here's a new one from Latavia. I've bought goods out of there before and you just have to wait a few weeks.

You can check their store to see if they sell the other side.
